The Vision
The aim is to deliver an exemplar scheme. It will be a visionary development
including large family homes with gardens and starter homes for those who have
previously been unable to access the housing ladder in the local area. New employment
opportunities will also be a key focus of the proposals.
This, coupled with the provision of much needed healthcare, education and
community facilities, will deliver a sustainable scheme. Set around village
greens, recreational land and woodland; the aim is to create assets of real
enduring quality for the community as a whole.
The site has been selected by Blaby Council as the best location to accommodate
new homes in order to meet local population growth. This, alongside the delivery of
significant regional employment is at the core of the development strategy to ensure
that the district remains economically competitive.
The key attribute of delivering housing in one site, rather than pepper potting
development around the district, means that funds are available to deliver significant
transport improvements, alleviate congestion at pinch points on local roads
and invest heavily in quality public transport provision, as well as providing
the educational and health facilities which are beyond the reach of current
Government funds.
New Lubbesthorpe will be genuinely ‘green’. The emerging master
plan has retained and protected existing landscape, ecology and heritage assets.
These will become the basis of a new green infrastructure framework which encompasses
built development.
